Marble Cake...

I believe you do not need a special occasion to bake a cake. It must be someone's birthday somewhere, so have a slice.  :) Though I'm not a sweet-loving person, but when it's about a cake, I'm a self proclaimed cake addict. Not only that, homemade cakes are a great snack option, specially when you have a kid at home.

This time it was a marble cake, a chocolate vanilla marble cake. Marble cakes are made with two different distinct color and flavor to achieve a swirly marble like appearance. It can be a choco-vanilla, starwberry-choco, choco-mint...any combinations that you prefer.

Things needed to make Marble Cake:

  • All purpose flour: 1 and 1/2 cups
  • Sugar(granulated): 1 and 1/2 cup
  • Cocoa powder: 2 tbsp
  • Baking powder: 1 tsp
  • Salt: 1/4 tsp
  • Unsalted butter: 1 stick(100-115gm)
  • Eggs: 4
  • Milk: 1/4 cup
  • Vanilla extract: 1 tsp
  • Butter to grease
  • Flour to dust

Steps of making Marble Cake:

1. Preheat oven at 375 F.

2. Bring all the ingredients to room temperature. I used a hand mixer to make the cake batter. You can use a stand mixer also, whatever available to you.

3. Take unsalted butter and granulated sugar in a large bowl and whisk on high speed till the mixture becomes creamy.

4. Crack the eggs in a small bowl. Add one at a time to the butter-sugar mixture and mix well. Add milk and mix well.

5. Add pure vanilla extract. Mix well.

6. Take flour, baking powder and salt and sieve it into the sugar-butter-egg mixture. Add gradually and fold with a spatula. To fold means to add the flour gradually(not all the flour at a time), and gently mixing it with other ingredients with a spatula or large ladle in a horizontal sweeping motion.

7. When all the flour is completely incorporated with other ingredients, divide the batter into two different bowls.

8. Mix cocoa powder in one of the batter.

9. Grease a cake pan, a 9 inch round or a square or a loaf tin. Dust the greased pan with flour.

10. With a ladle take the chocolate batter and drop dollops of the batter, with a little gap in between them. Next take vanilla batter and drop dollops over the chocolate one. Continue the process till you are finished with all the cake batter. Take a knife and make few 'S' shaped motion on the batter. 11. Bake for 30-40 min. Cool down on a wire rack. Slice and serve.
