Chingri macher bora...

chingrir bora, shrimp balls

Who doesn't like fresh juicy sweet shrimps? So when I found some in the market few days back, didn't take long to buy a bagful. I wanted to keep it simple to enjoy the flavorful shrimps to the fullest. I was juggling with different recipes, finally an easy shrimp balls recipe came to my mind. It is a tweaked version of a traditional Bengali style shrimp ball recipe.

These fresh shrimps were so flavorful they did not need many ingredients to taste good. Rather, too much spices would have overwhelmed the natural flavor and taste. So I added only few things to the shrimp made balls and shallow fried it. In Bengali this is called chingri macher bora, literally translates to shrimp balls.

Before started with the cooking which took me hardly few minutes, I couldn't help myself from taking some shots of these gorgeous shrimps. The beautiful orange hue was so attractive.

After cleaning and deveining the shrimps I took only the meat of the shrimps, (used the heads to make fish stock) added onion, garlic, ginger, green chilies and made a paste. Add chopped coriander and shallow fried the shrimp balls. Though the traditional recipe does not call for coriander, but as I love adding fresh coriander to almost everything I added a little here too. Chingrir bora is usually served with steamed rice, but you can serve this as an appetizer at any party, and make sure to prepare loads of them as these tend to disappear soon. I had them dipped in kasundi (mustard sauce) and also tried with Tabasco and dash of lime juice, both were equally good.
